There are no more wars, hardship and poverty are over. This is what the world of tomorrow should look like. Global justice is the central issue for a better world. Lasting world peace, freedom and security are hardly conceivable without comprehensive justice.
There have already been many ideas for achieving global justice: From the gentle transformation of human consciousness to violent revolution. There have already been many revolutions because it takes too long to change consciousness. However, in very few cases did these revolutions lead to the desired goals and usually ended in the opposite. There is a better way.
A look into the future
The year is 2100 plus. The states and peoples of the world are politically united in a federal World Union. Matters that affect mankind as a whole are regulated by a global legal system and disputes are settled by supranational courts. World law is protected and enforced by the democratic institutions of the World Union.
Compared to today's world, this is almost a paradise. Everyone is doing well, abject poverty is a thing of the past. But even extreme wealth is limited because it is unjust. What has happened? The nations united in the World Union have developed a system of global justice and solidarity under the name KOMPENSO. The magic word is equalisation, and KOMPENSO is the Esperanto word for it.
It is nobody's fault in which time, in which country or under which social conditions they were born and have to live. This is why a global equalisation of burdens is taking place, whereby no country, no people and no individual is disadvantaged due to adverse circumstances. How can something like this work?
What does the world cost?
You read it again and again: our planet belongs to all people and not to an elite of the super-rich and those in power. A nice realisation, but what can we do with it? How can we distribute the wealth of our planet fairly among mankind? By determining the fairest possible financial contribution to the global community for each individual country. How should this be done?
Someone once calculated how much money our planet Earth is worth and what the minimum bid should be if it were to be auctioned off. It is said to be around 5 quadrillion dollars. In a similar way, it should be possible to determine the value of each individual country, just like a private plot of land. It is less about the size of the countries or the number of inhabitants, but about their economic value. For example, barren desert is not worth as much as fertile farmland, unless mineral resources are found in the desert. This results in the different financial amounts, as if the countries were being leased.
For the nation states that already make use of the countries, nothing changes in terms of ownership. It is just a method of calculating their annual membership fees to the World Union. From this money, the World Union finances its administration, including the institutions of global democracy and global law. This is one of the pillars of global justice. There are others to come.
Common projects of mankind
The global social fund is another pillar of comprehensive justice. It provides everyone with a sufficient basic income, without conditions and regardless of where they live, irrespective of their own income. This gives everyone the same opportunities for a good life, even if they have no income of their own. Other benefits from the global social fund include free medical care and free access to education, from primary school to university. Implementation is the responsibility of the individual states, without it being at the expense of their national budgets.
Mankind is protected by a global insurance against force majeure. The World Union organises global disaster protection that firstly takes preventive measures against natural disasters and major technical accidents of all kinds, such as early warning systems, and secondly can help quickly and effectively in the event of damage. This is a new-generation, militarily organised Red Cross, which is optimally trained and technically equipped and distributed at bases around the globe. Its tasks also include repairing damage and rebuilding after disasters. Prevention also includes protection against dangers from outer space, such as asteroids.
In the event that barbarism breaks out again somewhere in the world or an armed conflict breaks out between two countries, the World Union has a supranational peacekeeping force on standby that can be deployed quickly and effectively. This is a federal police force with military capabilities that can be described as a world gendarmerie. It operates exclusively on the legal basis of international law and strictly observes the principle of proportionality of means. This allows nation states to disarm completely and save the costs of their own military. National police forces for internal security remain unaffected. Inter-state wars are thus consigned to the dustbin of history.
For mankind to have a great future, it must develop the ability to leave the earth and expand into space. The first step is to enlarge our planet. The Greater Earth concept is the new vision of an expanded Earth, developed and colonised by a larger, politically united mankind. As a human project for the 3rd millennium, it is a realistic perspective for relieving and protecting the Earth itself, as well as for the so-called conquest of space. Financing, organisation and responsibility for the project lie with the World Union.
Unity of mankind is a prerequisite
There are certainly more ideas as to how the membership fees collected could be put to good use. A system like KOMPENSO can only be roughly outlined here. How it will look in detail is a matter for experts and politicians. However, one can imagine that something like this is not possible without the political unity of mankind. That is why this agreement must become realisable. We are forced to do so if we and our descendants want to survive on this planet in a humane way. In the not too distant future, climate change alone will cause problems that no country in the world will be able to solve on its own. The potential for conflict will increase dramatically as a result.
We have no other choice: the unity of mankind is the ultimate goal. Our politics must urgently work towards a democratic world union. As politically aware citizens of the world, we must demand and promote such a policy. That is our most important task.
Mankind desperately needs unification - and it needs something like KOMPENSO. This could be achieved through cooperation between the United Mankind and the United Nations.
